Introduction
After being told by a naturalist at the Wahkeena Nature Preserve that they had no weeds there, Ohio poet Bill Hurley learned a valuable lesson and captured a great book title. In this collection of 31 poems, the poet delivers Remembrance, Whimsy, Harmony, Strength, and Love as sections of a garden for the reader to explore. Quoting Emerson, "What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not been discovered." Hurley leaves it up to the reader to decide for themselves the virtue of each poem. As New England poet Charles H. Harper stated on the cover, "This poetry is refreshingly accessible, and frequently surprises the reader with an unexpected twist. This is an insightful and delightful book."
