Introduction

"Gleason mixes historical mysteries with current events and exciting technology—creating a fast-paced story that takes you on an action-packed ride!”
New York Times bestselling author Jana DeLeon

In the tradition of Clive Cussler comes the first novel in an exciting series of thrilling adventure, high-stakes international threats, and lost treasures....

Moscow, 1560: A lost Byzantine library...last seen in the possession of Russia's Ivan the Terrible...

Siberia, 1942: A World War II female fighter pilot crashes in the mountains of Siberia and is taken away by a small, mysterious tribe...

United States, 2007: Four simultaneous earthquakes erupt across the United States in areas without fault lines....

Marina Alexander lives for adventure. She pilots small planes in order to participate in search and rescue missions with her dog, deep in the most dangerous caves on earth.

She also studies antiquities at the University of Michigan, and is just about to depart on the most important trip of her career when she is swept into an adventure of high-stakes, international intrigue--for little does she know, she has a connection to a dangerous group of eco-terrorists that will bring her face to face with them--and leave her with a terrible choice.

From the deep, dangerous caves of mid-Pennsylvania to the southern shore of Lake Superior, to the desolate mountains of Siberia and the slick urban oil center of Riyadh, Siberian Treasure will take readers on a fast-paced, thrilling ride.

"...there's nothing better than a book by [C.M.] Gleason!" --Robyn Carr, #1 New York Times bestselling author

Excerpt

Colin Bergstrom didn’t consider himself a particularly lucky man.

In fact, he’d had enough unfortunate and downright bad things happen in his life that he figured Lady Luck wasn’t on his side in any way, shape, or form.

But today, something beyond his comprehension of “coincidence” and “luck” occurred, and gave him an opportunity he never dreamed he’d have.

A second chance.

His first day back at the office in Langley after a week’s vacation for the Independence Day holiday, and he was going through the piles that had accumulated on his desk and the emails that had stacked up in his virtual inbox.

Later, he never could say what drew his attention to the bulletin that came in on email regarding the earthquakes in Allentown, Terre Haute, and Hays, Kansas; they weren’t a CIA investigation. The Bureau was on it. But nevertheless, something drew his attention, and he perused the bulletin with close interest.

Interesting, intriguing, but nothing that pertained to him or his counterterrorism team.

Yet something gnawed at him in the back of his mind, something told him he needed more information, and he logged on to the database that linked all the branches of Homeland Security to read more. There were photos, and he skimmed through each one, trying to determine what it was that caught his attention.

Bergstrom hadn’t worked with spooks for thirty years without trusting his instincts.

And they didn’t fail him this time, because on the sixth page of images, one of them caused him to freeze and gape. His fingers curled around the computer mouse so tightly he accidentally pushed one of the buttons, and had to jerk the mouse, clicking and dragging to get that image back on the screen and make sure he hadn’t imagined it.

But no.

It was there.

By God, it was there.

He stared at it, and felt the way his breathing worked his lungs, quickly and shallowly.

The chance he’d been waiting for. view abbreviated excerpt only...

Discussion Questions

Do you believe, as Marina does, that Rue Varden acted to help her stop the Detroit bombings and escape? If so, what is his motivation for helping Marina thwart Roman’s plans?

What other family secrets do you think Victor and Roman are hiding? Why would Victor pretend to be Marina’s father for so many years?

What personal reasons do you think Colin Bergstrom has for attaching himself to the Skaladeska investigation? Why does he want revenge on Roman?

The Skaladeska believe they are acting on Gaia’s behalf to correct the disastrous influence of humanity on the natural world. But, phase 1 of Roman’s plan results in more devastation and loss of life. Phase 2, had it been successful, would have brought destruction on an even larger scale. From a logical standpoint, do you think this is a flawed plan on the behalf of the Skaladeska—causing even greater disruption of the natural order—or does their assertion that the ends justify the means hold true to their ideology?

Do you believe Roman is acting in good faith to further the beliefs of the Skaladeska, or carrying out his own hidden agenda? Why or why not?

What other secrets do you think are contained in the hidden library of the Skaladeskas?
