Introduction

The New York Times bestselling novel that woke up critics, book clubs, and women everywhere.

For a group of four New York friends the past decade has been defined largely by marriage and motherhood, but it wasn’t always that way. Growing up, they had been told that their generation would be different. And for a while this was true. They went to good colleges and began high-powered careers. But after marriage and babies, for a variety of reasons, they decided to stay home, temporarily, to raise their children. Now, ten years later, they are still at home, unsure how they came to inhabit lives so different from the ones they expected—until a new series of events begins to change the landscape of their lives yet again, in ways they couldn’t have predicted.

Written in Meg Wolitzer’s inimitable, glittering style, The Ten-Year Nap is wickedly observant, knowing, provocative, surprising, and always entertaining, as it explores the lives of its women with candor, wit, and generosity.

Meg Wolitzers's newest book, The Interestings, is now available from Riverhead Books.

"Jacket description makes it sound better than it is."by Lynn M. (see profile) 02/22/11

I agree with most of the reviewsd. Though I did finish it and I wouldn't toss it out. I think it was a good topic but I kept thinking I could write it better.

It was a chore to finish and I had absolutely no interest in these characters There was maybe one interesting incident in restaurant which never came to much. I am an avid reader a book this size usually... (read more)

"Great discussion but didn't really like book"by Carolyn M. (see profile) 08/13/08

The book was a fairly easy read for me, but I know others in our group had a hard time getting through it. The character development seemed a little lacking...the the character's behavior sometimes annoying.... (read more)

"No one liked it. Only 2 people even finished it."by Rebecca H. (see profile) 08/07/08

My book club is a group of stay at home moms and yet none of us could relate to these characters. I don't see how it was a "Ten Year Nap" exactly and I certainly can't see what all these women awakened... (read more)

"Reading this is like trying to struggle through a required reading assignment"by Tonia P. (see profile) 07/30/08

Slow moving with lots of unnecessary verbage. So many in our book club did not finish reading it!

  "don't think I'll finish it"by Carrie H. (see profile) 07/22/08

Sounded interesting but isn't. Quite disappointing. No plot to keep you interested. I hate not finishing a book, but I don't think I can bear to waste my precious reading time on something I am not all... (read more)

"long tedious and boring"by Laura R. (see profile) 06/15/08

the synopsis of this book made me think it would be so much more than what it was ... i didnt think there was any 'story' to it .. it just seemed to be a narration of the lives of a few women ...

"horrible. I actually threw the book away"by ellen t. (see profile) 03/26/08

Terribly written, story did not go anywhere. I kept trying to read it until my husband asked me if I was enjoying my book and I realized how stupid I was being, so I threw the book away. Not even good... (read more)
