Introduction

Vann, whose work was exhibited at the Telfair Museum Jepson Center for the Arts throughout Summer 2008 in Savannah, Georgia, and writer Aberjhani, co-author of the award-winning Encyclopedia of the Harlem Renaissance. A perfect gift for graduations, father s day, birthdays, and other occasions, ELEMENTAL: The Power of Illuminated Love contains more than 60 brilliant reproductions of Vann s prize-winning work detailing scenes from his double hometowns of Savannah and New York, plus his visionary renditions of life beyond our everyday physical existence. The book also includes statements by the artist and introductory essays by Aberjhani with accompanying poetry, much of which has been showcased in ESSENCE Magazine and other publications. In addition the Jepson Center for the Arts, Vann s works most recently have shown at the The Book Lady in Savannah, Georgia, and the I.P. Stanback Museum in South Carolina. In addition to ELEMENTAL and Encyclopedia of the Harlem Renaissance, Aberjhani is also author of the memoir, The American Poet Who Went Home Again, the novel Christmas When Music Almost Killed the World; and the poetry collection The Bridge of Silver Wings 2009, as well as several other titles.
