We knew very little about Guernsey and this period in history. We loved the characters and the landscape.
The book is beautifully written but the characters weren't all believable and the dialogue didn't always sound authentic. There are many charming as well as disturbing parts.
The book is one that is almost painful to read but so compelling you can't stop. Characters are so true and real and the story reminds us of racism in this country.
Our book club thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and then watching the movie. Audrey Hepburn was a perfect Holly Golightly.
Modestly liked by the members of the group. The book is a humorous, sarcastic travelogue about folks unprepared for the hike.

Not everyone loved the book though many found it to be a page turner. Lively discussion regarding if you knew the world was going to end of a particular date, how would you live your life differently.
Everyone enjoyed the book and the characters. Once we understood the flashbacks, we felt they were well done.

The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman was adored by many in the book club while others found it difficult to complete. The book is beautifully written, full of rich language and remarkable characters. Some found the book too wordy while others embraced the language. The book can contribute to a rich discussions about the role of women, the role of women, and life in ancient and modern times.
