11/22/63: A Novel by Stephen King

King surprises - again

Stephen has taken quite a break from his usual "weirdness" in this huge novel. Not everyone understands or likes "the King", however, very few should have problems digesting this one. It's a whopping 849 pages, so give yourself some time.

Little Bee: A Novel by Chris Cleave

Dramatic, Insightful, Interesting
Informative but unconvincing

The book brings to light a great deal of tragedy that is humbling, however, I had a hard time believing and connecting with the main characters.

Adventurous, Epic, Brilliant
Fantastic read!

Unless book club members have watched the mini-series and/or are lovers of medieval fantasy, I would not recommend this for a book club. I, however, devoured it and will do so with the next 6 novels!

Enlightening and believable

Not a bad read. Characters were convincing and kept me interested throughout.

Well done!

The book flowed smoothly and was quite the page turner! Great characters! Didn't want it to end!

Iggulden does it again

I have read all of Conn Iggulden's books on the "Emperor" series and was not sure I would be as addicted to this series. Wrong! The entire series was insightful and I look forward to his next historical project.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

Adventurous, Romantic, Addictive
Disappointed

Perhaps it's my feministic ways that prevented me from thoroughly enjoying the book. I just couldn't get past the treatment of the primary character and how she "enjoyed" it? The book was otherwise ok and could have even captivated me had it not been for the Gaelic take of Tarzan and Jane.

Unbound

Wow....what an insightful book. It was very well written and I actually came unbound at times when reading through some of the tragic portions. I do believe I actually shed some tears and found myself pondering the lives of these two women throughout the days.

I laughed I cried

What a read! I realize the author probably wasn't trying to get the audience to laugh, but I just couldn't help myself. Would love to have coffee with Jeannette Walls and ask her some big questions. Brilliant!

Tragic but Inspiring

Another good read! Characters were believable and the storyline flowed. Well done!

The Bible Salesman: A Novel by Clyde Edgerton

Slow, Unconvincing, Fun
Unconvincing for me

I got through it, but just wasn't convinced.

Brooklyn: A Novel by Colm Toibin

Beautiful, Insightful, Slow
Ok, but...

..the main character really turned me off by her lack of concern and overall thoughtlessness.

Unconvincing
Had a difficult time

Perhaps because I don't have a child, I wasn't able to connect with the book. While relevant, I had a difficult time with the style of writing and unconvincing characters and wasn't able to complete the book.

Interesting concept!

Well done! I finished the book in a few days as it was indeed a page turner! The theme really gives some "food for thought".
