The Handmaid's Tale

The author presented an interesting story which I found intriguing. However I found the book frustrating in that it never answered the many questions the narrator and reader had. I believe this was the author's intention for us to experience Offred's ignorance of her world and circumstances. But in the end it didn't matter much to me anyway because I didn't really care. I felt sorry for Offred and her circumstances but I never really cared about her character and what her fate would be. She was a confusing person and not very likable. Also I found the writing verbose and too poetic for my taste. That's probably why I didn't care for the main character. Her thoughts frustrated me as well. I don't recommend this book. I do wish I could get the six hours back that I spent reading this book. I should have spent that time taking down my chrustmas decorations or playing with the kids. It's only redeeming quality is that it did create very good book club conversation which I always enjoy!

Didn\\\'t want to put it down

Love how the author allows you in all the characters\\\' heads. I liked knowing why others did what they did. It made the characters more complex and made my feelings for them (good or bad) even stronger. Even though it was a bit predictable at some points, I still couldn\\\'t put it down ... wanting to read how it would all play out. Great read!
