13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson

Book Club Recommended
Interesting
Backpacking in Europe at 18

Ginny (age 18) is sent on a mysterious trip by her Aunt who has passed away, but left her 13 envelopes to open at certain points in her journey. Ginny is on her own with strict orders from her aunt not to take a cell phone or communicate in any way while she is away. (None of this is plausible actually in today's world, but if you can get past that, and just enjoy her journey you may like this book.) Young readers would probably enjoy this book also. Ginny finds herself in situations that could be extremely dangerous, and that would be a way to create discussion with young people. Ginny does mature and "find herself" because of her journey. A quick read.

I was the only one in our book club who finished this

No one liked this book. On principal I finished it. Plot takes place in 4 days, but the author switches back and forth so often it is difficult to know what is going on. Extremely dark and disturbing. We can\\\\\\\'t understand why this book got so many awards.

This book was beautifully written. You won't be sorry you picked it up. Characters fully developed.
