I found this to be a very insightful book into what it must have been like for the Black American house servant. I suppose it may be somewhat similar to today's "help" working in households although certainly there are major differences.

I was able to feel the emotions of these wonderful women who worked so hard to take care of white families even though they were so often mistreated and treated without respect.
