thoughtful and thought provoking conversation.

overwrought and needlessly complicated

minimal character development. there is no one in the book to care about or be interested in. the biggest mystery is why the main character continues to investigate his wife's past.

interesting main character; good first book in a seriew

a little heavy on coffee info and teaching. i expec that to be less in future books.

interesting mystery with many historical details about gold rush California

Not a typical animal mystery. animals are present but no NOT participate in mystery. YEAH!

Good characters and fresh plot

one of the best book club discussions we've had in a while. usually when we all like a book, the discussion is very boring.

check out the author's website for some reading group discussion questions.

we didn't really need the questions, because we covered all the topics following our usual discussion format . . . wandering thru the book.
