This novel has everything you want. It is well written, mysterious, romantic and with a shocking end. When you start reading you will not stop!!
it is not like 'the Eight" but still a good story that explains some interrogations from the 1sr part. If you like mystery and history it is a good book.
It can be entertaining. The author tries to write a philosophical story but it is not convincing.(I do not know if it is the author's fault or the translator) It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland...a poor resemblance.
This is a story that makes you think about the power of miracles, the convincing power that certain people have in make others believe in miracles. It is a different approach to religion. The narrative is beautiful, specially if you read it in Spanish. You can enjoy magic realism mix with religious texts.
Better than 2666. Bolaño gets lost in his beautiful way to use the written word and it is difficult to follow him. The plot is interesting but is is too slow.
I think Oprah never did read this book when she recommended it. Five stories connected somehow for certain characters. Well written but the stories are not really engaging. Not a good pick for a book club...The Spanish version has more than a thousand pages...(too many for a non engaging book)
This is my favorite novel by Gedge. You have everything you need in one book: accurate information about a exciting period in history (ancient Egypt), mystery and romance.
Absolutely beautiful, sad and inspiring. Pure child innocence mixed with adult cruelty. A must read book that can be read in less than 5 hours.
It is another point of view of the Holocaust, from the French side. We should not forget that not only Germany had the responsibility of what happened but every single government around that closed their eyes out of fear or ignorance.
A great work of fiction base in historical events. Native Americans are portrayed humanly, part of a different and rich culture. A great story about brave women that were ahead of their time in many aspects.
It is the sequel of "the Ice Princess". This second novel is enven better than the first one, although I would recommend to read them in order...Addictive and surprising
Very well written story, Sad and tragic...but the best stories are like that. It is a book that traps your attention since the beginning and keeps you guessing until the end. I enjoy it a lot although some parts are tough and heart breaking.

about three women, with different perspectives and experiences about being black in the South of the US. Very informative and at the same time inspiring and dramatic. It will open your eyes to new points of view.

I expected a lot from it but the story plot was weak and the prose was not engaging.
It is a nice reading pass time if you want to read a looong romantic novel packed with stereotypes and very predictable. Overall is an entertaining book but not for a book-club: there is little to discuss about it. I expected more, may be that is why I was not impressed by the novel.
and then how she was successful the second time. I suppose it would interest to people that like rowing and suffering under extreme weather conditions. I felt claustrophobic sometimes.
A mystery novel, that has no mystery nor is engaging. I am glad I borrowed it and I did not pay a single penny for it.
I have read until now. Simple, Dramatic and truthful. A story told by a man that lived the Vietnam hell, Great document.
The written quality is not the best, the story has many downs but in general I learned a few things about the history of that part of the world that I would never had learned otherwise.
May be that is the reason I did not enjoy it. The base story is a good idea but the author did not convince me as a reader.

can manipulate others in order to achieve something, no matter what are the individual feelings or their families'. It is more scary when they use physiological manipulation in children. A very different type of story, interesting in general but the boring descriptions about the "game"
The characters, the adventures, the lives of the entire family are an example for the weaknesses and strength of human nature. The magic realism adds freshness, irony and comicality to the whole novel. A must read to the readers of the world...and if is in Spanish, the better, translations always leave something aside.
at the beginning i was intriguing, when I got to page 150 I felt I was reading the events again and again. Boring and unconvincing.
Since word number one the sensations of death, hunger and danger are present. A father and his son in search of nothing but survival. Graphic and violent but with no excesses.
although the are certain scenes that were very graphic, hurting and hard to described, the author did a good job. If you like Hollywood endings this is not your book.
My grandparents' stories from rural Castilla, delightful!! Delibes is in my opinion one of the best 20th century writers. his use of the language is marvelous and his stories unbeatable. This book brings me lots of memories...

Beautifully written.
I first red The Memorist and i think I enjoyed that more than this one. May be I expect too much from this book due to the fact that is the 1st of the trilogy. Anyway, it was a nice reading and opens many roads for discussion.

When I read the argument I was very excited to start reading it, but it took me one month to read a 200 pages book11...Slow and not engaging at all.

Even being Christian my self I found this novel slow and too long. The point of this story could have being written in half the pages. It was tedious and I have gain Heaven myself being able to finish it. Now I am afraid of picking another of the books this Web page recommends. This is the 3rd book I really did not enjoy or saw the point.
It depicts the changes from old ways to new ones in England. That part I liked. The story of two sisters and a maid...sometimes not convincing. the story has some downs but it is entertaining. Way worst than the Forgotten Garden.

In this book you get to know and understand Salander much better.
The first part was very slow but over all is a well written story about sacrifices for love to others. I liked to learn about Ethiopia and its cultural and historical ways.
After that it started to get worse. The plot got boring, some of the characters were there...for what? Boring and non sense christian romantic novel? A waste of time.

Great story packed with historical information. The author does a great job using his history knowledge to make a coincidental scenes. Great thriller, mystery novel. To really enjoy it you must read the first one.

Death, mortal secrets, love...A great story with a plot an conclusion that wowed me. Great thriller with good characters. Once you start the novel you will not stop until the last page...of the second part titled "Book of Souls", another great novel.
Our bookclub loved the discussion about past lives, reincarnation and the issues that this book presents. You can believe the story or not but it will not leave you indifferent.
of the Great War from different point of view. I learned a lot about that period of time and at the same time I enjoyed the story of different families from different countries and/or backgrounds. A must read. K Follet got it!! as usual...
If you like fantasy, medieval fables, The Lord of the Rings...this is a well written example of Fantastic novel. I do not know if I will have the time for the rest of the series...but I really enjoyed it.

The second half is very informative and shoking sometimes. If you like to read about 20th century history you may like it, but you have to be patient.
