This book was terrific. One of the best books I've read in a long time. It had me hooked from beginning to end. I highly recommend this book.

"Great charactor devlopment. Explores female friendships and how important they are." by bhbookies (see profile) 03/14/09

"Loved it!!" by jiviro (see profile) 04/22/09

I absolutely could not put this book down. Took me through all kinds of emotions and memories of my own. The friendship bond was entirely believable...the happy times, the struggles, the jealousy. Kristin Hannah's writing in this book was amazing...from beginning to end.

"Easy and Intersting Read" by Wits-End (see profile) 05/08/09

Very interesting book about two friends. The book was very emotional.

"Firefly Lane" by nagromsy (see profile) 05/15/09

This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. I had trouble putting it down, and read the last few chapters on an airplane with tears streaming down my face. I had book club last night and we put it on our list to read soon, plus I passed it on to my best friend. This is a book to share.

"Pleasant read about best friends and their long relationship through good and bad." by LauraAdams (see profile) 06/02/09

I enjoyed the book although it was not ground breaking or entirely unpredictable.

"Stitchinmama" by ppelusi (see profile) 06/03/09

This book took me from my high school years to today...each time an event was mentioned, I thought about where I was in my life at the time. It was not an earth shattering book but a wonderful walk down my memory lane. Four years ago, I lost my sister to cancer and the bond was much like Tully and Kate.Deb was two years younger than me and lots of fun. she had a curfew and I never needed one...I was always home on time.Loved the book and would recommend it to all.

An easy summer read. I was disappointed though that the author lifted the injury sequence from "In an Instance"

"Friendship" by FtLaudGal (see profile) 09/01/09

Firefly Lane was a fabulous story about loyalty and friendship. Easy to read, kept my attention and heartwarming.

Makes you reflect on your relationships with all the women you know. With 87 women in my book club:), this pleased everyone!

"An emotional friendship story" by hokiegirl (see profile) 09/20/09

Walk through the lives of best friends Kate and Tully. They help each other through the highs and lows of life and eventually realize what true friendship really means.

"Firefly Lane" by kdr4xmom (see profile) 10/02/09

This was too long and predictable. I would expect it to be made into a Lifetime T.V. movie.

"This is one of the few picks that EVERYONE in my book club finished and loved!" by BeckyHW (see profile) 10/20/09

This book was a poignant look at relationships and how they grow/change over the years. The characters were well-developed and, while not always likeable, consistently realistic. The author kept the story moving well and quite effectively took the reader on an emotional roller coaster ride. Every member of my book club not only finished the book, but enjoyed it.

I suggested this book based on the recommedation at a bookstore. Boy was I not disappointed. I could not put this book down. Everybody needs one person in there life that they can call friend through thick and thin.

"Somewhat formulaic" by Hillrat6 (see profile) 12/07/09

Entertaining read, if somewhat "Lifetime" movie-ish.

What a beautiful book. No matter who you are or what has happened in your life there are so many aspects of this book that you can relate to.

"Juvenile storyline" by basbas1987 (see profile) 01/26/10

I read this book for my book club, but would have not finished it otherwise. It was very juvenile, the writing was repetitive, felt like a junior high selection.

"Must Read for Book Clubs" by nmbaker123 (see profile) 01/28/10

A great read and offers lots of great topics for conversation. Read this in two bookclubs and it was the first book that everyone loved. Prompted serious discussions and some of the funniest. I suggest this is a book club must read!

"Unoriginal" by mgulotti (see profile) 02/21/10

If you've seen Terms of Endearment, Beaches, and Steel Magnolias, don't read this book. How many times can these writers beat to death the best friend theme of strong friend, weak friend, etc.

"Childhood Memories" by oldbidder1 (see profile) 03/02/10

This book was so much fun to read. It reminded me of days in high school when there was the cool and not so cool kids. The longing to be part of cool group thinking they had everything going for them. It is a great journey through the trials of friendship.

"Firefly Lane" by DarlaClarkPayne (see profile) 05/01/10

I loved this story of true friendship! I loved the fact that it was set in the 70's and 80's and then moved into today. I enjoyed the journey of womanhood that each friend embarked upon differently. It was a touching ending and I do think it is a wonderful book club book. This was our first book! I don't get a great deal of feedback and am always looking for new members. I think that about 100 pages could had been taken out of the middle to make it less monotonous.

This book showed the trials and tribulations of a friendship that expands over 30 years. It was in touch with the connections that women make and how they bond and love. I enjoyed this book to the end. I warn you it is a tear jerker.

I thought this book was a great example of how two people can have everything but think they have nothing. It just goes to show that we need to appreciate what we have in life instead of looking at what we don't have.

Firefly Lane is a great story of friendship. I couldn't put it down!

"Firefly Lane" by taeibel (see profile) 05/13/11

Its hard to rate this book. I said I liked it, but in truth I'm not sure what I liked. It read well and was written well so that I wanted to keep reading, but the characters' relationship I thought was horrible and destructive. I didn't like the ending. I kept waiting for the one character to be put in her place, but it never quite happened. Others at our club did like it. Let's just say I didn't hate it.

"Not great" by peachquilter (see profile) 07/12/11

This book was impossible to put down when I started. Then the last few chapters were SO predictable and character development was weak. I was left feeling robbed of my time and emotion. It was very similar to "Something Borrowed" (probably since they have the same editor) and Beaches. Except with the latter two they have characters with redeeming qualities and they actually grow and learn. There will be some who will love it, I was not one.
Would provide interesting discussion.

"Good summer read" by KWest (see profile) 07/28/11

Good book for chic-lit (not my normal genre). I learned a little bit at the end but keep the kleenex handy.

"“Best friends for life”" by ebach (see profile) 09/01/11

“Best friends for life” they called themselves. Kate and Tully met when they were in junior high and became friends shortly after when Tully was raped. They both lived on Firefly Lane.

They were in high school in the 70s. Tully was beautiful with her Farrah Fawcett hair, and she claimed to Kate, “I have a gift,” as Tully streaked Kate’s hair with blond. Kate had been a wallflower, but Tully took care of that; she was popular and, by extension, now so was Kate.

Kate and Tully really did remain best friends for life, even though Tully chose one path and Kate chose another.

Although they both graduated from the same college with the same major, Tully pursued her career more aggressively and Kate fell in love with their boss. (Yes, Tully ensured that they both worked for the same TV station.) Although their boss, Johnny, was interested in Tully, not Kate, and tried hard to snag her, Kate snagged him by . . . . Well, I’m not going to tell you, but she sure isn’t a great role model for teenagers.

In the meantime, Tully continued to pursue her career aggressively and ended up . . . . I’m not going to tell you that, either. But, although she was a big success, you wouldn’t want your teenager to live like her, either.

FIREFLY LANE is chick lit. I thought I’d never read chick lit before and, from the sound of it, I never wanted to. But I did.

It surprised me to learn that I sort of had read chick lit before. Some of the books I read when I was in high school could have been called “chick lit,” I guess, except girls didn’t pick up men in bars in the books I read. And they sure didn’t snag their husbands the way Kate did, either.

Maybe chick lit is the modernized version of what I read when I was 13, 14, and 15?

So I didn’t think I’d like what I outgrew. You could say I did enjoy it, though, in the same way I still enjoy catching an episode of “General Hospital” once a year.

For readers who like chick lit and Lifetime channel movies, this book is good. I don't recommend it for teenagers, though.

Great book on friendship/coming of age. A little frustrating at times, but overall a great read. Be prepared to shed a few tears along the way!

A beautiful story about the trials and tribulations of friendship through life's journey. Great read!

"Friendship that lasts" by msharry (see profile) 04/30/12

Firefly Lane follows the friendship of two young girls as it continues to strengthen and encourage them through over thirty years. Characters are engaging, and we get to live through the 70s, 80s, and 90s all over again. I defy anyone to not have tears running down her cheeks by the end of the book. Things to talk about: each of the decades, stay-at-home moms vs. career women, can any woman have it all, what causes a woman to be strong.

"Firefly Lane was a walk down Memory Lane" by nbaker (see profile) 10/11/12

I can't quite put my finger on exactly why I liked this book - there was no mystery, no cliff hanger moment and yet I couldn't put it down. I was filled with nostalgia and began to get lost in my own childhood friendships - those that last a lifetime -- that friend whose name comes up when you mention your "best friend" even though you may not have spoken in years. This was a beautiful story of two girls coming of age, a life-long bond of friendship, the need for a sense of family and the ability to heal a broken heart with a smile. It's not a deep story, there is no hidden secrets, and yet it clings to your heart strings and leaves you wanting more. I laughed, I cried and I had many moments when I just had to stop and ponder my youth -- with a smile.

"Enjoyable Read" by btubandt (see profile) 06/21/13

My book club rated this book a 7.5 on a scale of 1-10. While the book was lengthy, we felt that it was necessary for character development. We all reflected on our own friendships, boundaries, and the meaning of a true friend. I would recommend this book.

Heart-warming book which shows the power of friendship over the years.

"A Very Well Written Novel about the Ups and Downs of Women's Friendships" by RockinRenee (see profile) 04/30/14

This novel was incredibly well-written, so much so that I couldn't help but draw parallels to my own life and relationships. That's probably why I couldn't rate it higher, it hit a little too close to home and [spoiler alert] doesn't really have a happy ending. However, it caused me a great amount of emotion and isn't that what good writing is supposed to do?
