A one trick pony. A rather unconvincing, one dimensional narrative about mental illness and trauma.
Oh my how brilliantly funny is this damaged, screwy Eleanor! She slowly reveals herself to us, and her screwed up life. You hate her for much of the book but gradually you realise how damaged she is and by half way through you’re rooting for her. Has an amazing twist - you k ow it’s coming but it was brilliantly revealed.
Getting to know the main character, Eleanor, was a sweet study of how a member of the walking wounded could survive & move through life. A fascinating peek into the psyche and heartwarming look at what can happen when people are kind. Really enjoyed this both from a psychological and story perspective.
Tiffany and Charlene H read this and gave it an A. Can’t wait for the movie.
Funny and sad, "Eleanor" is a moving story of a young woman trying to navigate the world with very few coping skills. She finds help in the most unlikely of places. Great character development.
Slow to get into, & I didn’t like it at first, but then it grabbed me. Very interesting at the end with some surprises.
Loved the characters and the storyline. Made for great discussion.
This book is hilarious, even though it tackles tough subjects. Would give it 100 stars if I could.
A very sweet story in which you are able to watch the character grow and change throughout the story. There are some sad things but a lot of very sweet moments that help you root for the character. Eleanor 's unique perspective on the world will make you smile! Well written and very enjoyable
Rated 8.6 out of 10. Funny and well written. Sad undertones.
I like that it read a bit like a mystery. I thought this book, while heavy at times, had great humor. I was super invested in Eleanor’s character. She is different than other heroines I’ve read before. She’s unintentionally funny, quirky, unapologetic/unfiltered, and ignores social conventions. I enjoyed witnessing her growth and was cheering for her.
Eleanor is thirty years old and socially awkward. She lives a very mundane life with no friends. Until one day Raymond, the IT guy where she works slowly becomes her friend. Even though she is reluctant to open herself up to a friend she slowly sees it’s not so bad after all to have someone care for you.
Related to many aspects of the main character and her journey. I hope Eleanor and Raymond find their way to each other and live happily ever after. And if not, may their friendship last a lifetime.
