I am not a non fiction fan usually, but Erik Larson writes in a way that makes history seem like a story with characters. His writing is engaging and enjoyable.

Such an incredible account of not only Churchill during the Blitz, but the British people. His choice to use the diaries from people who worked with churchill and his children is such a great choice because we see him from all sides, behind the scenes, late at night, in small moments that make you love Churchill even more. I was drawn to the book inspired by his words—I finished the book with such affection for him, and such admiration for the British people. Just a remarkable book and one which I cherish. Was hard to say goodbye.

I loved this book but I have loved all of Erik Larson’s book. This is particularly great for the timing of the release of the book. We are all going through some uncertain scary times and it’s really good to remember that our ancestors went through it much worse. Churchill just became prime minister of England and three days later Germany takes over France. Churchill can see the war coming and knows the England is vastly unprepared for the coming conflict. This book covers the blitz and how Churchill turned it around from an imminent invasion of England by Germany to staying in the war and deterring Them from invading. This book gives hope in one of the darkest times in history that we can take with us now to our current circumstances. There is always hope no matter what you are going through now. We are working on giving the researchers time to develop a vaccine. Churchill was working on getting time to talk America into getting into the war. It’s how you can outlast your foe.
