THE HUNTRESS is historical fiction (during and after World War II), with chapters devoted to the separate stories of three people: Nina, Russian fighter pilot, Ian, journalist turned Nazi hunter, and Jordan, teenage photographer. All three seek the huntress. Therefore, before long their stories come together as they have the common goal of seeing that the huntress is brought to trial.
Jordan’s chapters are too young adultish. Nina’s chapters are too wordy. Ian’s chapters often portray Nina as a joke. All chapters sometimes strain the imagination.
But ignore that and you’ll enjoy the story.
I won an ARC of THE HUNTRESS from William Morrow through LibraryThing.com.
I very much enjoyed the Alice Network by Kate Quinn, so when I saw that she had written The Huntress, I wanted so much to read it also. It did not disappoint. I had never read a book about Nazi hunters before, so that's another reason this book caught my attention plus it was also about powerful women. One follows the characters as they track down the dangerous Lorelei Vogt for her unspeakable war crimes from Europe to the US, where she has made her way into a family by falsifying her identity. One of the trackers is Nina, a Russian bomber pilot who belonged to the female squadron known as the Night Witches. She has a fascinating story to tell. This is an inspiring novel of historical fiction about strong courageous women that you are sure to enjoy.
4.5 for me.
I have read a lot of the reviews after reading the book - - especially the two and three starts (of which there are not that many). I do appreciated the constructive criticism readers have and can see their point of view, even agree with a lot of it. However, for me, this was a very good book, and especially enjoyed Ninas story and the russian female bombers. Derinitely worth the read.
I was getting tired of WW2 books, but This WW2 book is finally different - they go after a criminal after the war is over. Learning about life in Siberia, life as a female Red air bombing squad, attitudes of people after the war was informative and somewhat surprising. Loved it from beginning to end.
So good! Got all other novels by this author right after!
Strong female characters
Trying to get justice for war crimes
Historical fiction well written with interesting characters that highlights different areas of WWII through the group of core characters. The story keeps moving going back and forth in time. Great discussion book!
There are so many WWII stories available to read. Many are concerned with Hitler and his atrocities. This book is about a German woman and the way she lived through the war and afterwards. Very interesting story! Imaginative in the way the author looks at how the German people were affected by WWII. Historical fiction at its best!
