The book developed characters quickly with back stories that were informative and with great insight.
The plot development gave the reader an opportunity to challenge their own belief systems and awareness of others and their set of circumstances. We all aren't offered the same life opportunities! The book is timely and although difficult at times - challenging because of its topic it is an important read
Refreshing to reread a childhood favorite. Had forgotten most of the story line. It was sweet.. too much detail for my taste but a lighter read

I was unaware of the mountain people of China and Thailand, and completely amazed by the culture, superstitions-that dominate the tea world. Gave me a greater understanding of tea as well as the strength and courage of women
a very dispointing read after enjoying Strout's other wonderful novels. I anticipated an addictive and enthralling tail, only to find that at the end I was left wondering if I somehow missed the point of the novel...
